Elden Ring was developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It was originally announced at E3 2019 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. No further details have been released until the June 2021 trailer announces the release date of January 21, 2022 with additional releases on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S. In October 2021, it was announced that the game would be postponed until February 25, 2022. Alden Ring is directed by Haditaka Miyazaki and features the world building of fantasy novelist George R. R. Martin, best known for his A Song of Ice and Fire novel series. He has the creative freedom to write about the important background of the game universe. Miyazaki used his collaboration as the basis for the game's narrative, comparing the process to the use of "Dungeon Master's Handbook in Table Top RPG". Some of the crew from the Game of Thrones television series, A Song of Ice and Fire, also helped develop the game. As with many of Miyazaki's previous games, the story was designed not to be explicitly stated because FromSoftware intends for players to interact with taste text and optional non-player characters (NPCs).
